More than seven months into the COVID-19 pandemic, the mounting daily challenge of sustaining Cagayan de Oro City Hall´s supply chain in response to the crisis is met head on by the men and women of its Logistics Cluster.

From alcohol and personal protective equipment (PPE) to fuel, medicines and thermal scanners, the Logistics Cluster seeks out suppliers to ensure these necessities are provided, said Eldie Daayata, City General Services Office (CGSO) chief.

´Pagsugod sa pandemya, atong gi-meeting matag department og ahensiya aron ma-storya kon unsa ilang panghinanglan kay naa shortage of supplies (by that time) (When the pandemic began, we met with all the department chiefs and agencies to know what they need because there is a shortage of supplies at the time),´ said Daayata, who co-chairs the Logistics Cluster.

Daayata said they organized a bidders´ forum and invited local suppliers to secure their commitment to supply Cagayan de Oro City Hall with their materials and equipment. This will ensure that the city´s COVID-19 medical frontliners and responders are equipped to deal with contingencies arising from the pandemic, Daayata said.

´In coordination with City Health Insurance Office (CHIO), mohimo kami og projections sa amount sa supplies aron paspas pag-replenish niini, og mo-canvass sa presyo and process sa (we make projections on the amount of supplies needed so we can quickly replenish them and process the) procurement documents in compliance with existing laws and under review by the City Legal Office,´ Daayata said.

For her part CHIO coordinator Teodeline Dulla, who represented CHIO chief and Logistics Cluster co-chairman Dr. William Bernardo, said their office spearheaded the manufacture and distribution of face shields and face masks to the public and their frontliners. ´Both CHIO and CGSO work together to ensure that City Hall´s supply chain is strong and able to provide every department,´Dulla said in Visayan.

´We conduct inventories of our supplies every weekend and make sure that these are good for at least three months. We make sure that JR Borja General Hospital (JRBGH), our 20 isolation units, our seven temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMFs) and our frontliners at the checkpoints are provided for. We (adopted the bank slogan) ´we find ways´,´ Dulla said in Visayan.
