Last Thursday´s (Sept. 10) incident involving a jail officer who supposedly brandished a firearm at medical technologists in one of the city´s holding areas won´t diminish Cagayan de Oro City Hall´s support to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Mayor Oscar Moreno said Wednesday noon (Sept. 16).

´I talked with Regional BJMP-10 Director (Ester) Pepito and City Jail Warden Gregorio Acacio who apologized for the incident and I told them there was nothing personal and nothing institutional here. My administration maintains the city´s wholehearted support to the BJMP and I only insisted that appropriate sanctions be imposed on the errant jail officer,´ Mayor Moreno said during Wednesday noon´s press briefing.

City police said the three medical technologists heard one of three jail officers who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 cock his gun at them after they explained to them about the delayed processing of their swab samples. Mayor Moreno said Director Pepito told him that the jail officer and two of his fellow officers were reassigned to Iligan City.

´I reassured her that di man ta nagdumot (we don´t hold a grudge) as far as the city government´s working relationship with the BJMP is concerned. In fact, City Hall funded construction of a three-storey building, an infirmary and additional projects (in the pipeline). Our commitment to them is unaffected but we cannot take this incident sitting down and they understood that,´ Mayor Moreno said.

City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery said she met anew with the three medical technologists who voiced anxiety over the incident. ´I arranged a meeting between them, (city police chief) Col. Henry Dampal and City Legal Officer Jose Sabanal to help them file the appropriate charges. Col. Dampal assured us that the city police will extend assistance if requested,´ Dr. Nery said. #DisiplinaMuna #AntiCOVID19 #COVID19WatchCDO #LGUCDOcampaign #Yourgovernmentatwork #Kaabag #Hapsay #CDOCityHallCollaboration #TheBiggerPictureForCDO #NagkahiusaBatokCOVID-19
